Planned for 2028
German accounting — planned for 2028
ELSTER VAT, GoBD-grade records, ZUGFeRD/XRechnung and DATEV export. Marchant serves UK businesses today; this is what the 2028 German launch is being built to cover.
- United Kingdom — launching November 2026
- France — 2028
- Germany — 2028
What the German launch will cover
Germany is planned for 2028. This is the scope we are building, from ELSTER pre-registration returns to what your Steuerberater expects in DATEV format.
ELSTER & Umsatzsteuer
Submit German VAT pre-registration returns through the official electronic channel your Finanzamt expects — with an audit trail from bank feed to return line.
ZUGFeRD & XRechnung (e-invoicing)
Issue and receive machine-readable invoices so B2B mandates and customer AP portals are covered without a separate e-invoice tool.
DATEV export
One-click exports structured for German tax advisors — fewer manual journals before your Steuerberater imports into their suite.
GoBD & record keeping
Immutable audit logs, document storage and revision history designed around the principles German auditors look for during reviews.
Payroll accounting in Germany
Payroll journals and payslip storage aligned to local expectations. A dedicated German payroll integration is on the roadmap.
Lexoffice, sevDesk — and Marchant
Lexoffice and sevDesk serve Germany today and Marchant does not — that is the honest comparison until the 2028 launch. What follows is how the products differ on fundamentals.
Lexoffice
Market leader for German SMBs with aggressive pricing. Lexoffice files ELSTER today and Marchant does not — Germany is planned for 2028. Marchant files UK MTD VAT now.
Marchant vs LexofficesevDesk
Modern UI and strong e-invoice story for German startups. sevDesk covers German filing today; Marchant covers the UK, with Germany planned for 2028.
Marchant vs sevDeskIf you run a UK entity too
A German company with a UK subsidiary is a customer today: Marchant handles the UK books and MTD filing now, and the German side joins at the 2028 launch.

Common questions about German accounting
- Can I submit ELSTER VAT returns directly from Marchant?
- Not yet. ELSTER submission is part of the German launch planned for 2028 — it is not available today. Marchant currently files UK VAT to HMRC under Making Tax Digital. You can join the Germany waitlist on this page and we will tell you when Umsatzsteuervoranmeldungen go live.
- Does Marchant support DATEV export for my Steuerberater?
- Not yet. DATEV export is part of the 2028 German launch. Our DATEV guide explains the formats your Steuerberater expects; EXTF Buchungsstapel are not offered until that launch.
- Is Marchant GoBD-compliant?
- Not yet. Marchant is designed to keep immutable, timestamped records with a full audit trail, which is the foundation GoBD requires — but GoBD compliance is assessed as part of the German launch planned for 2028, and we do not claim it today.
- Does Marchant generate ZUGFeRD or XRechnung e-invoices?
- Not yet. ZUGFeRD and XRechnung generation is part of the 2028 German launch. Marchant issues UK-format invoices today.
- Can I manage German payroll in Marchant?
- Not yet. German payroll accounting is part of the 2028 launch. Today Marchant runs UK payroll via BrightPay sync; German payslip storage and contribution journals are planned, not shipped. A dedicated German payroll integration is on the roadmap.
